Samsung misses golden opportunity
Germany is Chrome country. Current figures from April impressively demonstrate the dominance of the Google browser. But when you look at the following places, there is a real surprise: Samsung. The South Koreans are particularly strong in one category – and at the same time show that they are missing a golden opportunity.
In April 2022, Google Chrome remained the browser leader in Germany in two respects. Both on the desktop (incl. laptop) and mobile, no other could hold a candle to the Google browser, as figures from StatCounter show.
Samsung’s mobile browser is in third place in Germany
On desktop, Chrome led with a market share of 44.3 percent, and Chrome’s dominance on mobile is even clearer. at the market share here is more than 50 percent (Source: extra via stat counter).
Second place on desktop is Firefox with 24.4 percent, while on mobile Apple’s Safari browser grabs the silver medal. The in-house browser of iPhone and iPad comes to 26.7 percent.
But there is a real surprise in third place: Samsung Internet. The browser that Samsung comes standard with on its Galaxy smartphones and tablets comes to 10.6 percent. The Samsung browser beats the mobile versions of Firefox and Opera by far, for example.
Samsung needs its own desktop browser for the ecosystem
Opinion of Kaan Gürayer: Samsung’s market share in the desktop area is 0 percent. That’s not surprising because the electronics manufacturer doesn’t even offer a desktop browser. This is where Samsung leaves my opinion there is a lot of potential. Samsung has been trying to emulate Apple and build a smart ecosystem for years. This is getting better and better, because smartphones, tablets and smartwatches from Samsung are now well linked.
But there is still a gap on the desktop. With a own Samsung browserwhich, for example, synchronizes bookmarks and passwords between devices and offers its own extensions, the industry leader could fill this gap. Google has already shown how this works with Chrome.
