‘Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 lag behind with fast charging’

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4 get a slightly more powerful 25W fast charging technology. Also in terms of battery capacity, little changes with the two devices foldable phones.

More has been leaked about Samsung’s upcoming folding devices. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Flip 4 receive a small upgrade in terms of fast charging, because they will charge with a power of up to 25W. That’s a relatively small improvement compared to their predecessors, which each charge with 15W.

The information comes from the de Chinese regulator 3C who registered the charging speed of the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. With a power of 25W, no big step forward is expected in practice. Last year we already discussed in the review of the Z Flip 3, the foldable with its clamshell design, that the fast charging of the phone is actually unacceptable given the price tag of the device. Especially if you look at a phone like the Poco F4 GT that costs 499 euros and is charged in 20 minutes with its 120W fast charger.

Foldables and fast charging

You could refer to the more complex folding design to explain the limitations with fast charging. OPPO – a brand that is usually strong in charging technology – also ‘only’ uses a 33W fast charger with the foldable Find N. Yet, on the other hand, Huawei does manage to deliver a 66W fast charger with its new Mate Xs 2. The Mate Xs, predecessor already had a 55W charger.

Finally, it has also been leaked that the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 will not receive a major battery upgrade, although battery life has traditionally been a difficult aspect of foldables. The 4,270 mAh battery of the Z Fold 4 remains the same and the Z Flip gets an increase of 100 mAh with its 3,400 mAh unit.
