Soon you will be able to send quick video messages via WhatsApp

WhatsApp is chasing Snapchat by coming up with quick video messages of up to 1 minute. The recipient can also only watch the video once. This communication on WhatsApp is also end-to-end encrypted, so that malicious parties cannot use it.

Video messages on WhatsApp

Whether you send your partner a sexy video or make a funny reaction video when your best friend says something stupid again in the WhatsApp group: the idea that the videos cannot be viewed after one time ensures that the link with Snapchat is fast made. However, it can also be seen as something of an upgrade to the voice messages, which are extremely popular on the messenger app.

You can of course also record a video and share it, but this is just a bit faster. It’s not officially available in WhatsApp yet, but WABetaInfo folks spotted the feature in version 2.23.8.19 of the app. Incidentally, it is not possible in a group to only send a video to a select group (which also applies to photos and chats), so be aware of this if this function also becomes available within your WhatsApp.

WhatsApp beta

Curious if you already have it? If you use the beta of WhatsApp, it could just be. We don’t have it in the editorial office yet. You can recognize it by the microphone button you normally use for voice messages (next to the input block) and it will then change into a video camera icon. If you tap and hold the button, you can quickly record a video. If you prefer to record a voice message, tap the button again.

It’s a bit late that WhatsApp is coming up with this: competitor Telegram has had it for a while, but it’s great that it’s coming soon. Although not everyone will immediately walk away with the function, it does make it more attractive to make a video more often than a voice command.
