Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 series unexpectedly receive new update

Samsung is rolling out a new update in our country for the fairly old Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. For the devices released four years ago, there will be an improvement via this update.

Update for Galaxy S7 and S8

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will blow out seven candles next year, but there is still a new update for these smartphones. It appears to be a similar update to that of the Galaxy Note 9 that was released for that device earlier in the week. In addition, we see a similar changelog with the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. Those two devices were released 5.5 years ago. It is striking that an update appears for such relatively old devices.

In both cases it concerns improvements in the stability of the GPS connection and thus the location determination. The update has a size of 31.0 MB for the S7 family, while that of the Galaxy S8 has a size of 421 MB. Incidentally, this major update does not mean that changes have also been made to the security patch. With the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, this means that the phone will remain on the September 2020 patch. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ have the year-old April update of 2021.

It is suspected that the Galaxy S9 series will soon be the turn of this update, and it is possible that Samsung will also provide other older devices with this new patch. If we have more information about this, we will of course keep you informed.
