Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: The fusion of the S and Note series

With the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Koreans combine their Galaxy S and Note series in one device. The smartphone has a 6.7″ AMOLED display with a 120 Hertz LTPO (1-120 Hz) refresh rate. The Exynos 2200 will be used as the SoC in Europe, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in other countries such as the USA or Korea. For the first time in an S device, the device has an S Pen, which now recognizes inputs three times faster. The basic version comes with 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of internal storage, the maximum configuration is 12 gigabytes of RAM with 1 terabyte of internal storage. On the back, four cameras protrude a little from the frame, which should primarily ensure improved night shots. The main camera has a resolution of 108 megapixels, which is supported by a 12 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and two telephoto cameras. The two 10 megapixel sensors provide 3x and 10x optical zoom. The main camera can zoom a maximum of 100x. On the front there is a 40 megapixel sensor in a punch hole in the middle of the display, which is used for selfies. The device has a 5000 mAh battery, which can be charged with a maximum of 45 watts via cable. The device charges wirelessly with 15W. The device is certified according to the IP68 standard. The software running on the device is OneUI 4.1 based on Android 12. Praiseworthy: Samsung promises 4 OS updates and 5 years of security patches for the S22, Tab S8, Galaxy Z3 and S21 series. The marketing focus is on a greatly improved night mode for photos. This can only be finally clarified by a test.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra comes in four colors: Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Burgundy. The colors are also available exclusively in the Samsung store: Graphite, Sky Blue, Red. The devices will be available from February 25th, and anyone who pre-orders by the 24th will get the Galaxy Buds Pro for free. If you trade in an old device, you get a trade-in bonus of 150 euros and up to 530 euros for the old device.

Samsung Galaxy S22/+: More evolution than revolution

The Galaxy S22 and S22+ are still very much the same, but this year they have a few more differences than last year. The design hasn’t changed much, but the S22/+ now has a glass back and a flat frame. Both have a 120 Hertz LTPO (10-120Hz) AMOLED display, but in 6.1 and 6.6 inch versions respectively. Both have the Exynos 2200 in Europe, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the US as SoC, with either 128 or 256 gigabytes of internal storage and 8 gigabytes of RAM. The smartphones have three cameras on the back: a 50-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultra wide-angle lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera (for 3x optical zoom). The front camera has a resolution of 10 megapixels. The battery sizes differ immensely, while the S22 has a 3700 mAh battery, the S22+ gets a 4500 mAh battery. The devices also charge at different speeds, the S22+ charges with a maximum of 45 watts per cable, the S22 only with a maximum of 25 watts. Both charge wirelessly with 15 watts. Both devices are dust and water resistant according to the IP68 standard and also start with Android 12/OneUI 4.1. The S22 and S22+ will also get four OS updates and 5 years of security patches.
