Samsung Exynos 2200 with AMD RDNA2 graphics introduced, will bring a revolution?

After many months of speculation, we have finally arrived and Samsung is officially introducing its brand new flagship Exynos 2200 chipset with an Xclipse graphics chip based on the AMD RDNA2 architecture. At least in terms of graphics performance, the South Korean giant would no longer have to play the second violin.

Ray Tracing support has also arrived on mobile chips

With a new graphics chip based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture, the Exynos 2200 is the first mobile chipset to support hardware-accelerated Ray Tracingu. In simple terms, it simulates the behavior of light in order to achieve, in particular, the most realistic reflections and shadows. Proper implementation of these effects into the game can significantly improve the overall impression of their graphics even for older titles. Another novelty related to the use of the Xclipse graphics chip is the implementation Variable rate shading. This allows game developers to allocate less power to render areas of the game where it is not so much needed and will not affect their quality and thus achieve a higher frame rate.

However, the brand new graphics chip is not the only thing the Exynos 2200 has to offer. The chipset uses modern 4nm EUV production process, which in conjunction with the technology called AMIGO should bring significantly better efficiency and thus extend battery life. Stone by stone did not remain even in the processor part. Following in the footsteps of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from rival Qualcomm, they are betting on new ones ARMv9 core. Specifically, it is one high-performance core Cortex-X2, three Cortex-A710 and four energy-saving Cortex-A510 cores. Samsung then keeps the specific cycles on which the individual cores work. We should also see an NPU (neural processing unit) with twice the AI performance.

Exynos 2200 specifications

The remaining specifications of the Exynos 2200 include, for example, support for up to 4k displays with a refresh rate of 120Hz, or 144Hz QHD + panels. In combination with the new chipset, they can then be used up to 200MPx sensors and will also work with LPDDR5 memories and UFS 3.1 storage. According to Samsung, the Exynos 2200 has already entered the phase of serial production. However, the official date when we will see it in the first facility has not yet been revealed. However, we would be surprised if the first device with the new chipset was anything other than the new range of Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphones.

Can you imagine the real application of the graphics performance of the Samsung Exynos 2200 in practice?
