release has been postponed to the end of 2022′

While there was previously speculation about a release in early 2022, it now seems that Apple’s virtual reality headset will appear at the earliest at the end of 2022. This reports the reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Read on after the ad.

Release Apple VR headset

Kuo is usually very knowledgeable about future Apple products. His sources say that Apple will not start production of the VR headset until the end of the fourth quarter of 2022. This means that the device is likely to launch in late 2022 or early 2023.

Before launching the headset, Apple wants the software, services and ecosystem to be fully ready. Apple seems to need more time for that. Kuo also notes that making a virtual or mixed reality headset is much more complicated than producing a smartphone. After all, they have to be worn by the user and have a lot of design details to be worn comfortably.

Kuo also thinks Apple wants to go beyond games with AR or VR, making the challenges greater than with current headsets. “We think Apple is positioning its headset for different applications; not just for games,” says Kuo. It is not clear what kind of applications are involved.

Rumors

There have been a lot of rumors about Apple’s VR headset already. The device is said to be extremely powerful and have an 8K display. The headset is also reportedly equipped with no fewer than six cameras, which are used for tracking hand movements and displaying the real world.

The VR device is probably also quite expensive. The headset is rumored to cost around $3,000. This makes it a niche product. Apple may be primarily targeting businesses, using the headset to increase productivity when working remotely.

Apple is also working on an Apple Glass, which will become a real consumer product. The company still needs a lot of time to develop the glasses. Apple is reportedly aiming for a 2025 release.
