‘Our daughter (9) had hacked a classmate’s account’

When the school calls, eighty scenarios flash through your head, none of them good. Liesbeth (43), mother of Emma (11), Julia (9) and Sem (7) knows the best about it.

“During the first lockdown, the teacher suddenly showed up one afternoon. She suspected that our nine-year-old daughter had hacked into a classmate’s Google Classroom account in order to send “not-so-nice words” to another classmate via chat.

And she looked so good

We were shocked. We knew Emma was handy with computers, but we never expected this. In any case, it is an unpleasant surprise when you get a teacher at your door. As a parent, that also feels like a scolding, because it had happened right before our eyes.

After that, of course, we had a good conversation with our daughter about online etiquette and that she can better use her talent for positive things in the future. After the holidays she goes as an early student to a school where a lot of work is done digitally.”
