‘Only 4 percent of Dutch people share their Spotify account’
Recent research has shown that in the Netherlands we share our account many times less with a music streaming service than with, for example, Netflix. The research also shows which music services we use most often here.
We hardly share our Spotify account
Research firm Telecompaper has published a new study looking at the sharing of accounts of music services, such as Spotify. It emerges that only four percent of Dutch users of a music streaming service share his or her account with someone else. The problem of so-called ‘account sharing’ is thus much smaller than with video streaming services, such as Netflix. A survey last year showed that 24 percent of Dutch people share their Netflix account with someone outside their own household.
It is logical to explain that the account of Spotify, for example, is much less shared. After all, there is much more to personalize. Think of creating your own playlists, lists with music that is specially tailored to the wishes of the user. In addition, it is often the case with music streaming services that only one stream is possible at a time, where this does not apply to Netflix, for example.
Telecompaper’s research shows that Spotify is the most used of all music services. The app is installed on approximately 43 percent of smartphones. This while YouTube Music is loved by approximately 11-14 percent of users and Deezer at 2-4 percent. Apple Music scores 3-5 percent share, according to the survey. 55 percent of Spotify users in the Netherlands have a paid subscription. Globally, that number is 45 percent. In the 20-29 age group, 77 percent have a paid subscription to the Swedish music service. Telecompaper concludes that Spotify is used an average of 115 minutes per week. With Apple Music and Deezer, this number is between 62 and 65 minutes.
