NS and Arriva are starting a trial with checking in and out in public transport with GPS and app
A possible successor to the OV chip card is ready. Not only in the form of the bank card, but possibly also with the combination of an app and GPS. Arriva and the NS are starting a trial for this.
Pay for public transport with GPS and app
The two transport companies NS and Arriva will start a trial next week. It is a trial in which travelers no longer have to check in and out with their OV chip card, but everything is arranged using the smartphone. It is a new trial, after a pilot was already run between the NS and Connexxion in 2018.
During the trial, the participants pay for their journey by train via a special app. The times are checked using GPS coordinates and a QR code can be seen at the end of the trip, with which the traveler can check out at the gates. The app must be opened during ‘check-in’. At the end of the trip, the app is closed, the data is sent to Translink and they ensure that the payment is arranged with the carrier.
The trial will start on February 14, 2022 and will be evaluated later this year. 100 people are taking part in the pilot that NS and Arriva will be running together.
