Nokia announces new phone with replaceable elements: Nokia G22

Phone brand Nokia comes with a phone that should be more durable. It is Nokia G22 and it is equipped with, among other things, a screen, battery and USB-C port that are easily replaceable. For this it also works with iFixit, the website where you can view manuals and buy kits to replace parts. Moreover, the phone is very low budget: it is available for 199 euros.

HDM Global, the brand behind Nokia, indicates that the back of G22 consists of 100 percent recycled plastic. It is therefore once again committed to sustainability, which it has been doing for some time. This is also not necessarily a phone that you will buy for its high technical specs, because it doesn’t have that for that price: the processor is a Unisoc T606 and it comes with 4GB of RAM. What is striking is that not everything about this device is very durable: Nokia only promises two Android upgrades and three years of security updates.

Now it is also a somewhat cheaper phone, but is that no longer possible for even more durability, if you put it on the market like that? However, there is a longer warranty of three years. Sounds a bit contradictory, for this phone with its 6.5 inch screen with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The storage is 64GB, although there is also a variant with 128GB of storage, expandable with a microSD card of up to 2TB.

In terms of cameras, there’s a 50-megapixel sensor and a 2-megapixel sensor with a macro lens on the rear, plus another 2-megapixel camera for depth. You can take selfies in a resolution of 8 megapixels. The device does promise to last a long time on its battery, because it is 5050 mAh. Fast charging is possible at 20 Watt and you can use the phone with wired earplugs thanks to the 3.5 mm audio port. The Nokia G22 is splash-proof, but immersion in water becomes difficult with the IP rating of 52. Nokia G22 is available in blue and gray for 199 euros.

Nokia also announced the cheaper C32, which costs 149 euros. It appears with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. This phone also has a 50-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera on the back, although it lacks the second 2-megapixel sensor. However, the selfie camera is the same as that of the G22. In terms of battery, it makes little difference. The battery of C32 is 5000 mAh. You can charge via 65 watts and this device also has an IP rating of 52. The device runs on Android 13 Go and there are three years of security updates. C32 comes in green, gray and pink.
