In GP on prescription Marnix van der Leest shows the beauty of his profession – as one of the few he is allowed to follow a whole human life. He tells about the girl with pigtails who grows up into a young woman, and her first STD, about a party animal with a death wish, the undiagnosed man who suffers seriously from magnetic radiation, and the chimney after the beautiful deathbed of a nun. These stories show that, in addition to medical knowledge, the GP profession is based on seeing and knowing patients. Van der Leest candidly tells how he struggles with the question of whether he sees and knows everyone well and attentively enough. The daily practice of the general practitioner comes very close.

A moving eyewitness account of life in the forced labor camps for Jews in Nazi Germany.

In 1942, twenty-four-year-old Jewish Dutchman Hans Andriesse is deported by the Nazis. For two and a half years he led an inhumane life in various forced labor camps for Jews and in concentration camps in Germany. He talks about the internal politics of the camps, how he got out of the heavy physical work due to his technical background, and about the close friendships he made with other prisoners, fellow victims of Nazi violence.

When the concentration camp where he stayed was liberated by the Russians at the end of the war, this did not mean the end of the misery for Andriesse, but the beginning of a grueling journey against the advancing Russian army, via Poland and Russia to England.

On a silk thread is an important and unique document that poignantly reveals the fate of the prisoners. It is a fascinating account of the journey through forced labor camps for Jews and concentration camps and the long way back.
