A major software update is available for PlayStation 5 owners. Unlike last time, Sony has now published a real changelog describing the changes of the update. In addition to better system performance, the low latency mode can now also be set.

PlayStation 5: New software update is here

Sony has one for the PlayStation 5 new firmware update released. It can be installed immediately. The new version has the number 22.01-05.50.00.08 and is about 1 GB in size. Depending on the download speed, the update can take a while. As before, the download can be initiated directly via the console, alternatively Sony is again offering the update on its website.

Unlike the most recently released firmware updates, Sony real patch notes included. Although there is still talk of a rather vague “improvement in system performance”, the manufacturer goes into more detail with further changes.

This is how the PS5 can be expanded with memory:

PlayStation 5 update expands ALLM options

The focus of the update is the automatic low latency mode (ALLM). This can now be adjusted in the settings under “Screen and Video”, “Video Output” and “ALLM”. If PlayStation 5 owners choose the new “automatic” option here, the television will switch accordingly automatically into low latency modewhen gameplay is detected. However, the TV must also support ALLM.

The mode ensures that TV any graphic post-processing (post-processing) disabled and display game content with the least amount of lag possible. If the option “off” is selected, then ALLM is only activated when videos are output with variable refresh rate (VRR) (source: Sony).
