New season ‘What we do in the shadows’
The vampire comedy ‘What we do in the shadows’ season 4 is coming. What to expect?
The series was originally created by FX, but in the Netherlands the first three seasons can be seen on streaming service Disney+. For those who are not yet familiar with the series, we will help you on your way!
The series is based on the feature film of the same name by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi and gives a glimpse into the daily nightlife of four vampires who have lived together for hundreds of years in a house in Staten Island New York. A camera crew makes a documentary about the vampires and that documentary is what we see.

The fourth season of ‘What we do in the shadows’ picks up where the previous one left off. The existential crisis of vampire Nandor and the rebirth of energy vampire Colin Robinson. The series’ writers and showrunners tell Variety that they wondered how Colin became an energy vampire, was he born that way or was he made that way?
So the energy vampire had to die and was then reborn as baby Colin Robinson. Classic vampire Laszlo has discovered him and takes care of him.
Documentary Rules
The chosen documentary form is strictly adhered to when filming the series. Even action scenes are filmed from one point of view as if the documentary film crew was just recording. Although the writers indicate in their conversation with Variety that they sometimes miss a close-up. The chosen form is sacred.
The big question for the regular viewer of ‘What we do in the shadows’ is what will happen to Guillermo. Nandor’s loyal servant is eager to become a vampire himself, but curiously, he is also a vampire hunter.
The series has already been renewed for a fifth and sixth season and a natural ending for the story, according to them, lies in the future of Guillermo. Will he become a vampire or not?
As mentioned, you can see the first seasons of ‘What we do in the shadows’ in the Netherlands on Disney Plus. Season 4 premieres internationally on FX on July 21. The Netherlands will follow later.
