This penthouse in Amsterdam has been empty for 13 years. Why? Is it too big, too expensive or too ugly?

The housing market in the Netherlands is overstretched. For simple terraced houses you already pay the main price. Certainly in Amsterdam, where these houses are already being sold for a million euros or more. That is why it is all the more remarkable that a penthouse in Amsterdam has been decaying for 13 years.

Penthouse empty for 13 years

The price is 5.4 million euros. That is a considerable amount, but you also get something in return. It is therefore a combined penthouse, so extra large. Only add at least a few tons to the price, because it is completely hull. It is therefore not a furnished and completely finished house. You can also see it as an advantage, because you can finish and arrange it according to your own taste.

The broker calls it a penthouse. We immediately think of the top floor, but that is not the case here. The broker says that in this complex apartments from a certain floor are called a penthouse. Strange but true. Must be marketing.

New Amsterdam Tower

The apartment is in the New Amsterdam Tower. It was completed thirteen years ago and has been habitable ever since. It is remarkable that it has been empty for so long. The broker can again provide us with an answer. So it is two apartments that have been joined together. One of them was used as an office. The owner subsequently demolished everything, with the intention of living there himself. Rightly so, it is large but also has a roof terrace of 136 square meters. Unique for the Zuidas.

However, the owner now wants to get rid of it. We don’t have the budget, but it’s nice to look at the pictures.
