Google Discover starts showing advertisements

It’s not really a surprise, but it seems that the time has come for advertising in another Google service. According to reports, Google has started showing ads in Google Discover.

Google Discover is the screen with (personalized) news that you see on many smartphones by swiping from left to right on the home screen. It is a useful addition for many Android users. Google adds new features every now and then, and now it seems it’s time for another feature. Ads are popping up in the Google Discover feed for several users.

SmartDroid’s German colleagues have encountered several advertising banners in the application. Until now, the service has been free of advertisements, but there has been some experimentation or speculation about advertising in Google’s service for some time. According to the source, the ads take up almost all of the screen space and are larger than the individual articles that are linked to. So far they have not surfaced (here) in the Netherlands, but there is certainly a chance that Google has planned this.
