WhatsApp: users can create private block lists

They can now be fine-tuned, like WhatsApp announced on Twitter Has. For profile picture and profile info, status and the “last seen” timestamp up to now three options can be selected:

  • Everyone
  • my contacts
  • No one

Now a fourth option has been added: “My contacts except.” This allows WhatsApp users explicitly select contacts from their phone book who do not have access to this information. So at its core, it’s a personal blocklist, like that mirror aptly writes. Private and professional contacts could be separated more easily in this way, for example.

The new settings are now available for iPhone and Android smartphones.
