new November patch for 5 year old device

Nobody expected that Samsung would roll out another update for the five-year-old Samsung Galaxy S8. Yet that is precisely what is happening. Samsung is making a new update available for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. We list the details.

Galaxy S8 gets new update

The Samsung Galaxy S8 series appeared there in March 2017. This series consisted of two models; the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. Both models received two Android upgrades; up to and including Android 9 Pie, and were kept up to date with security updates for years. In May of this year it became clear that the company would stop with updates for the S8 series, this after four years in which the devices are always duly provided with updates. A year before, it became clear that the S8 series would now receive a quarterly update.

While we didn’t expect any more updates for the phone, it’s here now. In several European countries, Samsung has started updating the Galaxy S8 to the November 2021 security update. On top of Google’s patches, Samsung has also added its own patches. We suspect that Samsung has also smoothed out several imperfections.

When the update can be downloaded for your device, you will receive a notification on your smartphone.
