Apple releases new test version for iOS 16.5

Last week, Apple launched the third test version for iOS 16.5, revealing a number of new features for your iPhone. We didn’t have to wait long for the fourth test version, because Apple released iOS 16.5 beta 4 today. This is a public test version, which means anyone with a developer account can install it.

The fact that Apple has released iOS 16.5 beta 4 to the general public means that the final update will probably not be long in coming. The fourth test version is expected to be the last beta before the official release. We will tell you when iOS 16.5 will be officially released and which new functions will come to your iPhone with the update.

New iOS update is likely to appear in mid-May

Next month is the annual WWDC, Apple’s own iOS 17 event. In view of this launch, it is almost certain that iOS 16.5 will be released this month. For comparison, iOS 15.5 was released on May 15 last year. We can probably expect iOS 16.5 around the same date this year.

This is expected to be the last iOS 16 update before the release of iOS 17, the next major update for your iPhone. Apple will present iOS 17 on June 5, but the official release of iOS 17 will not follow until September. Then the iPhone 15 series will also be launched. Curious about what features are coming to iOS 17? Earlier we put together everything we know so far for you.

No major new features in iOS 16.5

Due to the approaching presentation of iOS 17, Apple is no longer bringing major new features to your iPhone with iOS 16.5. It will therefore be a small update, with Siri in particular getting a new function. In iOS 16.5 it will soon be possible to make screen recordings with Apple’s voice assistant.

To make a screen recording with Siri, simply say “Hey Siri, start a screen recording”. A screen recording will then automatically start, provided you have Siri enabled, of course. The screen recording can then also be stopped via Siri.

In addition, Apple News is getting a new feature. In this new window all current sports news is shown. You will hardly notice this addition in the Netherlands and Belgium, because Apple News is still not available here. So iOS 16.5 will only be a minor update here.
