WWDC 2022 official: invitations sent

Apple has sent out the press invites for WWDC 2022. The annual app developers conference will once again take place entirely online, as it has in the previous two years. The exact schedule is yet to be revealed, but the event will take place from June 6-10. Please note: the opening keynote is therefore on Whit Monday.

WWDC is a conference for app developers, where software is always central. The event will kick off on June 6 with an online keynote. iOS 16, macOS 14, watchOS 9, tvOS 16, and iPadOS 16 are expected to be announced during this presentation. The rest of the event is dominated by online workshops for developers, lectures and digital drinks.

Expectations for WWDC

Software is therefore always central during WWDC. Every now and then, however, Apple also presents new products. However, this year Apple already introduced a number of new products in March, so we expect it to stay with software this year. The best chance might be a new Mac Pro, as it’s a good fit for WWDC’s developing audience.

Star of the Show: iOS 16

However, for most people, iOS 16 is the most pertinent announcement. The iPhone software update follows iOS 15 and is rumored to finally get a major redesign. The last time iOS received a completely new design was in 2013 with iOS 7. There is a fresh new access screen, changed app icons and smarter notifications.

iOS 16 also seems to get a refresh for the widgets. Since iOS 14 it is possible to place widgets on the iPhone home screen, but so far they are not very interactive. iOS 16 could change that.

It is not yet clear what time the iOS 16 keynote will take place on June 6. Looking back, this keynote will probably be at 7:00 PM.
