New app costs 130 euros
At this price, even die-hard fans should swallow: A new app for Samsung televisions costs a whopping 129.99 euros. It offers light synchronization with smart lights from the Philips Hue series. The Ambilight is also available for content that runs on the TV via an app.
Philips Hue Sync TV: App costs 129.99 euros
Hue producer Signify has introduced a new app that is now available for some Samsung smart TVs. It can be obtained directly from Samsung’s TV app store, provided customers are willing 129.99 euros for the software to spend
The manufacturer promises one seamless light synchronization with Philips Hue smart lights. All common image formats and resolutions are supported, up to HDR 10+ and 8K.
In contrast to the previous hardware solution, the Ambilight also works with native apps like Netflix or Disney+ on the Samsung TV. According to Signify, the synchronization simply happens “with everything” that can be seen on the smart TV – and no longer only with devices connected via HDMI (source: Signify).
Via the app, users can adjust some settings such as the brightness of the lamps or switch between a video and gaming mode. An automatic start can also be activated here. In addition, there is the option of using a smartphone to create your own entertainment areain order to achieve the “best possible lighting experience” according to the manufacturer.

New Hue app: New QLED TVs only
The Philips Hue Sync TV app is only for Samsung’s QLED TVs from 2022 ready, the Q60 model is minimum requirement. Interested parties should also know that the app alone does not provide Ambilight, but that smart lights such as the Hue Gradient Lightstrip or the Hue Lightbars are also required. Only the Signify hardware Play HDMI Sync Box can be omitted.
