Samsung Galaxy Watch 4: New Exynos processor has it all

In contrast to processors in smartphones, processors in smartwatches have so far played a rather subordinate role. Samsung has now unveiled the Exynos W920 for smartwatches one day before the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (source: Samsung). It was expected that the processor for wearables would have more power, but such a sharp jump in the graphics unit comes as a surprise. While the pure CPU performance “only” increases by 20 percent, the Graphics performance increased ten times have been. This will ensure that graphics are processed faster and apps start faster. In addition, the new watch should run much more smoothly.

The new processor for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 was built in such a way that it is particularly compact and leaves more space for larger batteries, which in turn increase the battery life of the watch. In order not to load the main processor of the smartwatch when using the always-on display, Samsung has developed the Cortex-M55 integrated its own core for the AOD function. This significantly reduces the energy requirement in sleep mode and extends the runtime of the smartwatch accordingly. Of course, there is also an optional 4G modem so that you can be connected to the Internet independently of your smartphone.
