Review bombing is becoming more and more common. That’s when the public doesn’t agree with certain choices a developer has made and tries to make their point through a flood of bad reviews. It is quite hard and often not necessarily right that a certain app gets bad reviews. Google wants to limit this behavior by setting a wait on app reviews from its Play Store.

Hopefully it will be even better soon, because you will soon have 24 hours to ‘cool down’ before the mini-review you wrote about an app appears online. Google says it wants to be able to detect and remove misleading reviews, which is a fairer process if it’s done before it’s even available online. The advantage is also that developers also get a fair chance: they get to read the review immediately and therefore have 24 hours to come up with a solution or answer. The answer will therefore be posted to the assessment immediately after that 24 hours have passed.

There has been a lot of tinkering with the ratings in the Google app store lately. For example, you only see reviews from users who come from the same country and, for example, if you work on a Chromebook, you only see reviews from people who have also used the app on a Chromebook. Developers, in turn, have more data about the reviews, which will hopefully give them a quicker insight into what they can possibly adjust to their app.
