More details iPhone with USB-C – and you can buy it!

The builder of the world’s first iPhone with USB-C charger has shared a more extensive video and the device is for sale!

Early in October, someone called “Kenny Pi” shared on YouTube that he modified an iPhone to fit a USB-C charger. He already said that there would be a follow-up video explaining everything.

That video is here now. The whole explanation is difficult to give in full, but in short Kenny Pi has spent months researching how everything works. How the iPhone makes contact with its charging cable, how the internals react to it, et cetera. The result is a mix between being smart with coding, being handy with tools and a lot of testing. You can check out the detailed video on YouTube.

It is clear, however, that it is not for the cat. Building a USB-C connection in your iPhone is difficult. However, Kenny Pi has shared his efforts on GitHub. If you understand coding and know how to do odd jobs, you can get started with it yourself. Kenny Pi’s project is based on an iPhone X, but you can, for example, build a USB-C input in your iPhone 11, 12 or 13 using the same method.

However, if you are the ‘ready-to-use’ type, it’s even easier. Kenny Pi’s converted iPhone X with USB-C is up for auction on eBay. However, see it as a collector’s item. The ad emphasizes that you do not touch the software, do not open the phone, nor do you use the phone if you are going to use the phone every day. Those are big demands for the surprisingly cheap ‘forgotten iPhone’. $810 has already been bid at the time of writing, so your bid should be at least more. You bid on eBay.
