MIUI 12.5 update allows you to remove Xiaomi apps from your phone

Xiaomi will soon let you delete its own apps on phones. The feature is part of the MIUI 12.5 update rolling out this spring.

Uninstall Xiaomi apps

Every phone comes with pre-installed apps, and these are both the fixed Google services and manufacturers’ own apps. It is therefore likely to find a gallery app or second ‘Photos’ app in addition to Google Photos on your phone.

Pre-installed apps from manufacturers are nothing new, but the number of apps that you get on your phone differs per brand. Xiaomi is now taking the initiative to let users decide for themselves which apps they want to use. In MIUI 12.5 the upcoming update to Xiaomi’s software dispute, users will be able to delete the vast majority of Xiaomi apps. The company announced this on Monday in a press release after the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 11 in the Netherlands.

Xiaomi shows which apps can and cannot be removed

Xiaomi already shows in an image which apps can be removed and which cannot, but differences may occur per region, the manufacturer announces. We see, for example, that apps such as the phone app and camera app cannot be removed, but also Xiaomi’s security apps and the gallery remain on your phone anyway. It has been possible for some time to disable Xiaomi apps on your phone and so-called bloatware apps, or third-party apps, can already be completely removed.
