Samsung removes ads from default apps

Samsung has removed the ads from standard phone apps such as Pay, Health, Weather and Themes. This is what the Korean phone maker has promised and it is clear that it is now delivering on that promise.

Ads in standard apps

It is logical that you are occasionally confronted with advertisements in an app that you download for free from the Google Play store. The fact that advertisements have also crept into apps that belong to the menu of Samsung’s Android shell One UI as standard, that is less.

You already pay for your smartphone, do you still have to look at advertisements? This went down the wrong way for many people. Samsung saw it differently. It was an opportunity for growth, the company believed.

Samsung’s Promise

Now it comes back to that. That the advertising in standard apps is experienced as irritating, Samsung learned from an employee who complained about it. In the South Korean newspaper Yonhap, Samsung promised to remove the ads and it has now done so.

It probably also noticed in behavior that advertising yourself in your own applications is of little use. Although it also happened that other brands were advertised.

These advertisements were particularly evident in other countries. Sometimes they filled the entire screen, so you couldn’t get out of it. We have not had this kind of disturbing advertising in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Only on smartphones

There is still advertising in the Pay app, but that is because space has been specially made for special deals. Since that app revolves around payments, that is more obvious.

If you now have the hope that your Samsung smart TV will no longer show advertisements, then you will come home from a cold fair. The removal of advertisements only applies to the smartphones of the brand for the time being.

If you still see advertisements, make sure you completely close and restart the default apps. The update should then go through.
