Microsoft unveils 3D avatars and future work environments for its own Metavers

“Casually” as the expression says, Microsoft advances the pawns of his own Metaverse, as a way of signaling to Meta / Facebook that he will not occupy this land on his own. The Redmond firm has just announced that the Mesh tool is now compatible with Microsoft Teams, the software for professional meetings and remote collaborative work. With Mesh, developers will be able to create 3D and hybrid environments (AR + VR + 2D) for Teams as well as 3D avatars that can interact from a wide variety of media (mobile, PC, Microsoft VR headsets, HoloLens 2). In short, “mixed” reality.

The first practical applications of this compatibility are strangely similar to what Meta presented to us a few days ago. Microsoft’s virtual avatars are even represented a little more realistically than those of the Oculus Quest. Mesh will be available for Teams in the course of 2022. By then, we can bet that the rumors of a new Microsoft AR / VR headset – a little more mainstream than the HoloLens – will pick up again …
