Microsoft to show more ads to users in Outlook app

Are you a user of the Outlook app? Then it may just be that you will soon receive considerably more advertising from Microsoft. The change applies to free users of the Outlook service.

More advertising in Outlook app

Microsoft’s Outlook app is getting more advertising. This news is confirmed by Microsoft to The Verge. The company’s mail app is already showing ads to users without a Microsoft 365 subscription. This is done in the so-called Focus mode. That is going to change and from now on advertising will also be shown if you use a single inbox in the Microsoft app.

An advertisement is displayed at the top of the mailbox in the Outlook application. This resembles the design of an email. The advertisement is indicated by an icon with the text ‘Ad’. When clicking on the ad, an in-app browser opens. According to the source, it is possible to swipe away the advertisement, although it will then be replaced by a banner with a different advertisement.

Users react angrily to the change the Outlook app. In this way, Microsoft probably wants to get more people to a Microsoft 365 subscription.
