Ikea Vindstryka smart air quality meter

The Swedish furniture giant continues its tech adventure. In addition to smart speakers and plugs, Ikea now also has a smart air quality meter, the Vindstyrka. The product has a large display and works together with the new Ikea Dirigera smart hub for Matter support. This allows it to connect to HomeKit and other smart-home ecosystems.

The Vindstyrka Air Quality Sensor enables the measurement and monitoring of indoor air contaminants. Ikea says that you quickly forget that the indoor air can be just as polluted as the outdoor air, because everyday things such as cooking and cleaning cause pollution.

With Vindstyrka we wanted to develop an affordable, powerful air quality sensor that helps our customers become more aware of the quality of the air they breathe at home

This is what the Vindstryrka measures all

The Vindstyrka Air Quality Sensor measures particulate matter (PM2.5), humidity, temperature and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC). The device gives a rating on the display with a green, yellow or red square. The square indicates how healthy or unhealthy the indoor air is.

You can use the device on its own, but when connected to a Dirigera Hub with Matter support, you can also view your measurements on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. The integration with the Dirigera hub enables the Vindstyrka air quality sensor to connect to HomeKit and other smart-home platforms.

Towards a healthier living environment

According to Henrik Telander, Product Owner at Ikea of Sweden, clean indoor air is essential for our well-being. One of the first steps to better air is greater awareness of indoor pollutants. “With the Vindstyrka Air Quality Sensor, our customers can easily monitor and control the air quality in their homes to create a healthier living environment,” said Telander.

Ikea has announced that the Vindstyrka Air Quality Monitor will be available in April 2023. The price is not yet known, but we expect it to be a lot cheaper than similar products on the market, such as the Eve Room and Netatmo Smart Air Quality Meter.
