Meta wants to cut thousands of jobs again

The tech industry doesn’t rest. Because once again, Meta, one of the tech giants, wants to cut thousands of jobs in the workforce. The advertised goal should be more efficiency.

The Facebook group had already announced an enormous wave of layoffs in November. 11,000 employees were laid off – around 13 percent of the entire workforce.

At the time, CEO Mark Zuckerberg described the layoffs as “a last resort” to implement the company’s cost-cutting plans.

Meta plans to announce thousands more layoffs later this week, according to people familiar with the matter. The company’s goal is to streamline its organization. Entire teams that are considered unnecessary could also be deleted for this purpose.

However, the focus of the renewed wave of layoffs should be on the group’s financial goals. Because first early February Mark Zuckerberg proclaimed the “Year of Efficiency” at Meta.

In order to increase efficiency in 2023, the group also wants to “cancel projects that don’t work or are no longer important”. It is also planned to “remove layers of middle management in order to be able to make decisions more quickly”.

The mood at Meta is nervous

In preparation for the wave of layoffs, the company asked directors and vice presidents to create lists of employees the company could lay off. The group got loud Bloomberg but do not want to comment on the plans.

According to internal circles, the layoffs could be completed as early as next week. Accordingly, it is planned to implement the termination plans before CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s impending parental leave.
