Solar roof not that stable, is it? Tesla is removing advertisements about the durability of the solar roof tiles
Tesla has claimed that its solar roof tiles are three times stronger than traditional roof tiles. The e-car manufacturer has now removed this advertising from its side. Why is not clear.
The durability of solar roof tiles is a very important pro argument for home builders: inside when it comes to deciding on a (new) roof. After all, the roof has to withstand adverse weather conditions such as hail, storms or snow – and that for many years. Tesla knows that too, and is slowly trying to get going with its solar roof. It is all the more astonishing that the company has removed the claim that its solar roof tiles are three times stronger than traditional roof tiles from the website.
In the future, solar roof tiles should make a major contribution to increasing the share of renewable energies in the electricity mix. After all, scientists recently calculated that photovoltaic systems on roofs could completely cover the world’s electricity needs. In favor of solar systems in the form of roof tiles with an integrated photovoltaic module, the fact that the character of the house is preserved. Such roof tiles would be essential for listed houses, larger photovoltaic systems should not be installed there.
At the same time, the solar roof tiles are also comparatively difficult to manufacture. A German startup, for example, speaks of the “premier class of the solar industry” in this context has been working on it for years. Tesla also took a long time for its standards before production of the Solar Roof picked up. The electric car manufacturer’s solar roof tiles have only just been made available nationwide in the USA. In the coming year, Solar Roof could finally start in Germany, “hopefully”, as Tesla boss Elon Musk at the opening of the Gigafactory in Grünheide said.
Most recently, Tesla had to collect a drastic subsequent increase in prices for its solar roof that was carried out in the spring. Disgruntled customers had filed a class action lawsuit against it. The fact that Tesla has now removed the aforementioned claim about the durability of its solar roof tiles from the website does not inspire confidence, such as Electrek discovered.
At the point where “Solar Roof tiles are more than three times stronger than standard roofing tiles and are engineered for all-weather protection”, it now only says: “Solar Roof tiles are durable, strong and engineered for all -weather protection “. Meanwhile, Tesla is sticking to the granting of a 25-year guarantee. It is unclear why the comparison with conventional roof tiles was removed. Was there a lawsuit against it? In Germany, where the Solar Roof is not yet available, they say on the relevant website on the other hand: “3x stronger than standard roof tiles”.
