Meta is working on “web” and mobile versions of its metaverse

Meta wants to impose its metaverse Horizon Worlds on VR headsets Meta Quest but also… on the “oueb”. Andrew “Boz” Bosworth, the chief technology officer at Meta, confirmed the information yesterday on his Twitter account. The info came in the middle of a long thread from Bosworth trying to (poorly) defend the 47.5% commission on purchases made in Horizon Worlds.

When the web version of Horizon launches, the Horizon platform fee will only be 25%, a rate much lower than other similar world-building platforms Boswroth wrote. We thus learn both that the 47.5% commission will only be temporary and that Meta intends to increase the volume of Horizon Worlds members by extending its metaverse to browsers.

Earlier in the week, Vivek Sharma, Vice President of Horizon, had already confirmed that Horizon Worlds would also arrive on mobiles, and a console version would also be in the pipes. All that remains is to monetize all these pretty worlds…
