Meditation for a calmer brain

Busy busy busy, it’s all of us. Even if you spend all day indoors without working, you will get enough incentives from social media and television. There’s a reason there are so many apps dedicated to getting some rest in your brain. One of those apps is Petit BamBou: our App of the Week.

Meditation

“Meditation, isn’t that something for goat wool socks or extremely hip people who don’t seem to need it at all?” The image of meditation is not always good. Too bad, because it has been scientifically proven that meditating for 15 minutes to half an hour every day does have an effect on the brain. Time to give it a try with Petit BamBou, an app that brings you one step closer to a new habit every day.

The app immediately catches the eye with its funny animations. The ‘figurehead’ is a smiling, clearly happy Buddhist monk and that already feels good. The funny thing is that the rest of the app doesn’t propagate that at all. Because of the use of color, but also how the videos look and who is talking, you would almost think of a fitness app. Not that you’re being yelled at, certainly not, but it’s not that beige.

Petit Bam Bou

It takes some getting used to the narration voice, but she does say things that you can use. Especially if the thought of meditating makes you a bit recalcitrant. Petit BamBou puts a cork in those thoughts by saying that you should not immerse yourself in the process, but just let yourself be carried away. It is also not a problem if your mind is constantly wandering: it will get better in the long run.

Compared to Headspace, Petit BamBou is a bit clearer: you really follow a path with all kinds of bubbles and you can only open the next one when you have completed the previous one. Moreover, there is also a big difference in the meditation itself: you first receive a kind of introduction, so that you have a moment of transition from your daily life to your meditation. It doesn’t take long and it isn’t a lot of fuss, but it can just work to slow down that express train of thoughts for the exercise you are about to do.

Always a goal in mind

The exercises themselves are sometimes a bit vague, but because it is made clear what the goal is, this is not disturbing. It is also great that you can use this app for free. Although he will eventually come with in-app purchases. In any case, your introduction to meditation is free and that alone can help a lot of people. The writer of this piece did not manage very well to get used to the voice and the way of speaking of the narrator’s voice, but there are certainly things that stick. At a certain point you will even look forward to a meditation, because you know that you will then provide a moment of rest for your brain.

In short, Petit BamBou is certainly effective and the advantage of this app is that it is available in Dutch. This allows you to follow it well and you can really focus on your meditation. In the end, that probably just makes you a little calmer. Good luck!
