Marktplaats introduces successor ‘Crossing right over’: Buyer protection
Trading platform Marktplaats has announced a new feature for its users. With Buyer Protection there is an alternative to the ‘Right across’.

Marktplaats is introducing a new service that better meets the needs of users, the company says. It is the successor of the option ‘cross straight’, which went black earlier. The new feature is rolling out as of now and the rollout phase is expected to last 1-2 weeks.
The Marketplace Buyer Protection is an optional service that buyers and sellers can offer and purchase at their discretion. The costs for this are 5 percent of the agreed purchase price; there are no costs involved for the seller. It serves as security, for example to wait and see whether a product is really good (in terms of condition) and through Buyer Protection, if something is not in order, the payment can be withheld and, if necessary, mediated or, if necessary, an investigation can be started.
For buyers, the advantage is that if the product does not arrive or deviates, he or she can get the amount back. It helps sellers to provide security and reliability. Also, an account or telephone number does not have to be shared with the buyer. Marktplaats explains exactly how it works below.
How does it work?
Buyer Protection is offered and implemented by the payment partner Online Payment Platform (OPP). When using Buyer Protection, the amount paid by the buyer is placed in OPP’s suspense account. After payment, both buyer and seller will immediately receive a confirmation in Marktplaats Messages where they can follow the status of the transaction via the Purchase or Sales Overview: from payment and shipment to receipt. If the buyer reports within seven days of shipment that the package has not arrived, is damaged or that the contents of the package are different from what was agreed, the money will be held and the buyer can get a refund. If the buyer does not hear anything, the seller will still receive his money.
