many readers think a smart ring is crazy

A smart ring? 42 percent of AW readers think that’s a crazy idea. This is apparent from our Androidworld poll, in which we asked whether readers would like such a smart ring on their finger.

smart ring

There are two kinds of people: those who think of a nice Beyonce song when they hear the word ring, and those who think of smart doorbells. If it is up to Apple, perhaps a third category will be added: people who think about a smart ring. The idea of such a ring is that it has a touchscreen and smart functions, including counting steps, showing the weather forecast and giving notifications.

Sound appealing? Many visitors think not. 42 percent think it’s a really crazy idea and say ‘no’ to this ring. 11 percent think otherwise and think it is a wonderful idea. In addition to that 11 percent, there is also a group of 23 percent who say: I would like one, but only if the product appeals to me. Finally, 14 percent only agree if the price is very attractive and 9 percent do not know what to do with the smart ring. Or have to. Anyway.

Just a wedding ring

mvanleden thanks for it: “No thanks, the only ring I wear is my wedding ring. Not a fashion statement or exchange item. Watches are with me, so let all manufacturers work to a good standard for payments across all devices, banks and countries…“

RebelwithoutaClue doesn’t like it, but more from a technological point of view. “What complete nonsense this is. Battery life 2 hours, screen cannot be read and added value 0.”

Bank NFC ring

In Belgium it appears that they already have some kind of smart ring, says Cyclon: “In Flanders you can buy a ring with NFC at the bank KBC for two years now, to be able to pay wirelessly at a terminal. It doesn’t have any more functionality.”

It’s still just a patent, so Apple, screw down sales expectations if it’s up to our readers. Or would the answer be very different if it was a Samsung copy? Just kidding!

Next week you’ll be asking the question again in a new AW Poll. Until then!
