Malware & Android: a black year for Google!
Each year, Google publishes a report on its security activities. Malware, fraudulent accounts and dangerous app developers have had a busy year on Android, according to the document of 2022. The system suffers from the same evil as Windows in the 90s. The system is not perfect, but it is above all the target of bandits because it is very widespread…
1.43 million applications refused on the store
The other main flaw of Android is based on the very open aspect of the operating system. Much less closed than iOS, it allows a large number of developers to publish their programs on the Play Store. But Google ensures compliance with its privacy and security policies, through relatively effective moderation and the Play Protect validation program. These are thus more than 1.43 million applications that were declined in 2022, leading to a move to mass banning of developer accounts. 173,000 accounts have been blocked by Google Play teams. A hell of a blow!
2 billion dollars protected according to Google
Who says malware and hacker says theft of accounts and fraudulent transfers. Every week, we discover many programs designed to infest the bank and crypto accounts of thousands of users. Google therefore claims to have avoided the fraudulent collection of $2 billion by removing malicious apps from the Store. In the same logic, these are more than 500,000 apps that have been blocked for requesting sensitive access to users’ devices without justification.
A year 2022 which has therefore proved to be sporty on the security front for Google! While the firm is often singled out for its lack of transparency, we can only welcome the sharing of this annual security report.
