LG U900 with rotating screen

A striking device this week in our new edition of ‘The forgotten phone’. LG announced the LG U900 in 2006, a special device with a rotating screen. You could also watch television on this model.

LG U900

Small chance that you are familiar with the LG U900, because this device has been truly forgotten. In April 2006, the U900 was announced, a device with UMTS DVB-H, so that television could be watched on supporting networks. The idea is reminiscent of that of the Samsung P960 TV, which, like the U900, had an antenna. Watching TV was done via the 3G network available at the time. However, the LG U900 was announced two years earlier than the P960. LG proudly showed that the U900 was suitable for watching the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

The LG U900 had a rotatable screen, which meant that viewing images should be even more pleasant. The TFT screen itself measured 2.2 inches and offered a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The design is a bit like the LG Wing, which was released by the manufacturer last year. The rest of the specs weren’t very impressive either. There was 60MB of storage space, which you could expand with a memory card.

For taking photos, this so-called ‘swivel-phone’ was equipped with a 1.3 megapixel camera. If you wanted to make video calls, the device was equipped with a VGA 0.3 megapixel front camera. On the list of specifications we also see the presence of Bluetooth 1.1 and a 950 mAh battery. The LG U900 has never been a (great) success. Worldwide, the phone has only been released on a very limited scale, in the Netherlands we could whistle for this phone-mobile from LG.

LG U900 summarized in 3 points:

  • Rotatable screen
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • Extendable antenna for television
