LG KP500 Cookie from 2008

The LG Cookie; it was a device never to be forgotten. For relatively little money you got a very interesting device and LG managed to score well with the device. We discuss this interesting telephone in this edition of ‘The forgotten telephone’.

LG Cookie

In September 2008, the LG KP500 Cookie was announced and a few months later it hit the stores. After saving the money I bought the silver LG Cookie in March 2009. Incidentally, the device was so popular that delivery times of 3 weeks arose!

Unique

The LG Cookie was a device with a 3.0 inch resistive touchscreen. This type of touchscreen could be operated with a stylus that was extendable and could be found at the bottom right of the device. Below the screen we saw three keys for recording, speed dial menu and hanging up a call. There were also several screens where you could place shortcuts. That was really unique for that time.

SMS and shake

Interesting about those shortcuts and kind of widgets was that by shaking the Cookie, the icons were automatically lined up neatly. It was cool that you could compose a message in four ways; with the QWERTY keyboard, handwriting screen, box and double handwriting box.

photo editing

On the back was a 3.2 megapixel camera. You could then edit the photos you shot with the device. You could use the stylus and grab the colored pencils and markers for the digital editing. Speech bubbles were also one of the possibilities of the telephone. Furthermore, you could create a slideshow with music with your own photos.

dice

Anyone who has owned an LG Cookie will undoubtedly remember the games that were on the phone. There were the dice that you could roll across the screen by shaking the device. There was also a wheel where you could earn points by spinning. It didn’t really add anything, but secretly managed to provide entertainment.

About the device

Some more specifications of the LG Cookie; the plastic device weighed just 89 grams and was available in black and silver. The LG KP500 Cookie also released a pink, white, purple and brown color on a small scale. There was 48MB of storage space but this was expandable with a memory card of up to 16GB. Filming was possible in 320p at 12 frames per second and there was a 900 mAh battery. You could use the internet via a GPRS connection.

This device was also the first telephone for which I was allowed to write a review for GSM Helpdesk. The LG KP500 Cookie came in the shops on December 31, 2008 with a price tag of around 210 euros, later the price dropped to around 100 euros. With prepaid the price was even lower.

Later, the LG Cookie Fresh, Cookie Style, Cookie Lite, Cookie Plus and a number of variants with the model name Cookie followed. More than 5 million Cookies of the Cookie as in this article have been sold in nine months. Nice detail; in the early days when the Cookie came I founded the LG Cookie Forum. It became a great success full of owners of the LG Cookie.
