KPN and T-Mobile best network, Vodafone remains the same

A new study by research agency Umlaut has shown that the network of KPN and T-Mobile in the Netherlands has improved. Umlaut is the new name, where it was previously known as P3. What else does the research reveal?

Umlaut research about 2021

Research agency Umlaut has conducted research in the Netherlands into the quality and performance of the Dutch mobile network. This happens every year, with the researchers testing the tests for data and conversations while driving and walking. Previously, these studies were known as those of P3, which is now called Umlaut. The conclusion that is drawn is that the networks of KPN and T-Mobile will show improvements in 2021; that of Vodafone remains stable.

Last year T-Mobile was in first place with 962 points, followed by KPN (954) and Vodafone (945). This year it is different. KPN takes the win with 976 points, T-Mobile follows closely behind with 972 points. Vodafone earns 938 points. According to Umlaut, various test requirements have been tightened up this year, so that it fits better with this time. There are a number of differences, however, Umlaut reports. KPN is stronger with the 5G network in cities, while T-Mobile shows better 5G coverage in villages, on the road and in the train. T-Mobile also notes the ‘fastest set-up time’ in the call test. Vodafone’s 5G network is slightly less, and Vodafone also delivers slightly less performance in the field of data connection.

The survey was conducted on 5.83 million people, nearly 6000 kilometers, 118,921 data samples and 16,337 voice samples. With these results, KPN and T-Mobile score ‘Excellent’ and Vodafone scores ‘Very good’. The entire network of Umlaut can be found here (pdf) being watched.
