Keynote Far Out: the recap of almost certain … and probable announcements

L’Apple Store on line just closed awaiting announcements from keynote Apple, which is a good opportunity to recap almost certain announcements (iPhone 14/iPhone 14 Pro, Apple Watch series 8) and probable announcements (Apple Watch Pro, AirPods Pro 2).

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro

Let’s start with the big piece, the presentation of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus (come on, let’s bet on it), iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. On the specs menu for the iPhone 14/14 Plus, 6.1 and 6.7 inch panels, slightly boosted A15 processors, 4 GB of RAM, some improvements to the main photo sensor, storage capacity that would start at 128 GB and a price revised upwards, more than 1000 euros (6.1-inch model) according to the most pessimistic estimates, or just under 1000 euros for the most optimistic. The iPhone 14/14 Plus could also embed a function of calls and messages (SMS/MMS) via satellites, but this novelty will perhaps be reserved for the “Pro” models. Note that the iPhone mini model disappears from the catalog.

The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will be entitled to significantly more new features on their side, starting with the famous notch in the shape of a pill or “i”, which may be a single and same small notch once the screen on. These models will also be equipped with the A16 processor, 6 or 8 GB of RAM, but the storage capacity would remain at 128 GB for the basic model, which would not be terrible given the price increase that is being prepared (the price of the iPhone 14 Pro would start at 1279 euros all the same…). The big technological evolution will mainly concern the photo part, with much larger sensors and therefore probably with many more megapixels (we are talking about a main sensor at 50 mpx). Finally, the iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max would have a function of calls and messages via satellites. The new iPhone14/14 Pro would be released on September 16.

iOS 16

iOS 16 will also be there with necessarily the announcement of the deployment. We briefly recall the main new features of the new OS, i.e. the advanced customization of the locked screen (colors, fonts, notifications, widgets), the deletion or modification of a message after it has been sent in the Messages application, the possibility of extracting text from a video with Live Text, the easy clipping of an object on a photo with Visual Look Up, the new shared iCloud, etc.

Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Pro

The Apple Watch Series 8 should not break the mold, but would still gain a temperature sensor, without forgetting of course the novelties of watchOS 9. The Apple Watch SE would benefit from a small update of the specs (without more so…), but it is above all the Apple Watch Pro that should attract attention. This solidified model (Rugged), designed for athletes and somewhat restless activities, would be significantly larger and thicker than the Apple Watch Series 8. In addition, the 2-inch screen of this model would lose its attractive curvatures.

AirPods Pro 2

The AirPods Pro 2 could also be invited to the keynote. These would display a new design and offer support for lossless audio with Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC).

As for new models of Macs or iPads, we will probably have to wait for a next keynote in October…
