Is the Amazon app an alternative to Google Photos?
Amazon has released a major update to the Amazon Photos app that may tempt some Google Photos users to switch.
We spend almost more time shooting photos and videos than we do on our smartphones. It is therefore a very important and large market for the tech companies of this world. The new app is currently only available to iOS users and represents an “extensive redesign”. The old one is still available.
The new app features more personalized content and auto-compiled slideshows reminiscent of Google Photos. It also makes it easier to find content, allowing the user to quickly filter results by categories such as people, places, and dates.

Many useful and new functionalities have been added to the app. These are very similar to what you can also do with the Google variant. Also new is an updated home screen designed to put your entire gallery “at your fingertips”. Search filters are now conveniently displayed at the bottom of the screen, making it much easier to find the content you’re looking for.
Storage is not free, so you have to pay for it. Amazon Prime customers currently get unlimited storage for photos included with their subscription. So they can fill Amazon Photos with as many images as they want at no extra cost. If Amazon can provide an experience similar to Google Photos, chances are many will be tempted to switch to Amazon Photos.
Unfortunately, Android users won’t get this update until 2022, but the new features are already available to everyone over the Internet.
