Operators may no longer offer “unlimited” tariffs

A big wind will soon blow through the world of Czech operators’ tariffs. The Czech Telecommunication Office will now shed more light on the offers that are marked as “unlimited” and at the same time limited in some way. If tariffs are somehow limited, companies will not be able to label them with the word in the vast majority of cases. This is a large number of services that companies currently promote. The Office does not like the practice of SMS and calling, as well as in the field of data transmission.

“As regards voice and SMS services, we will not accept the marketing label “unlimited” in the future in the case of tariffs that are limited in volume in any way, notwithstanding the fact that the operators notify this restriction in their contractual conditions. This approach is necessary to prevent such offers, where under the label tempting to use practically unlimited services is hidden the offer of services with a volume so low that it can normally be achieved or exceeded in the normal use of these services by consumers, “describes the Office in its November monitoring report. Only exceptional situations will be tolerated.

In the case of data transmissions, the CTU wants to set stricter rules for operators for the increasingly popular practice, when “unlimited” tariffs actually they promise an unlimited amount of downloaded data, but at least in the part of pumping at a very low speed. “E.g. if a 256 kbps tariff was offered for data services, which of course is possible, it should not be presented as “unlimited dating”. In our opinion, the so-called “unlimited” data tariffs would be the download speed should not be less than 2 Mbps. However, this is not a binding value and the Office will always assess the specific circumstances of the service offered in this way, ”adds the CTU.

What is your experience with “unlimited” tariffs?
