iPhone will soon call emergency services after accident

eCall, a handy system that is only built into newer cars, may soon be coming to your iPhone.

A doomsday scenario: you have an accident and have to go to the emergency room as soon as possible, but no one has seen it and you are only discovered when it is already too late. It is precisely for this reason that the eCall system was invented. Then your car will detect when there is an accident and the emergency services will be called in. It works: there have already been several accidents where the police came to an eCall call.

eCall on your iPhone

So nice if you have a new car, but what if you still proudly drive a bourgeois piece of tin from 2004? Then your iPhone may be able to offer a solution. Apple is seriously working on an eCall system on the iPhone. Then the sensors in your iPhone could detect if you had an accident. For example, if a gigantic number of g-forces is suddenly measured.

Your old iPhone

Nice, but do you have to buy an iPhone 14 for this security to get the eCall system? No, it is not. These sensors are already in older iPhones and fit seamlessly with other security measures. Apple itself hasn’t responded to it yet, but eCall on your iPhone could come as early as 2022.

The feature would roll out for both Apple iPhones and Apple Watches. Very safe, eCall on your iPhone. (via Wall Street Journal)
