iPhone SE 4 cancelled?! These are the 3 reasons

Are you waiting for the iPhone SE 4, the next generation of Apple’s cheapest entry into the iPhone universe? According to a well-known analyst, it has been canceled – or at least postponed.

This is how the iPhone SE 4 should have been

Bee iPhoned we have a love-hate relationship with the iPhone SE. On the one hand, we really appreciate that Apple is working on a relatively cheap iPhone, on the other hand, we always miss the special thing about these models. But this last rumor shocked us a bit, because the iPhone SE 4 did not deserve such an end.

According to the majority of rumors, the iPhone SE 4 would be released in spring 2023. This time even a new design was planned. Again, Apple would go back to an old design, namely that of the iPhone XR from 2019. That also means a considerably larger screen of 6.1 inches. But now Ming-Chi throws Kuo spanner in the works by saying the iPhone SE 4 has been canceled – or at least delayed to 2024. What are the reasons for this?

According to Kuo, Apple is currently disappointed with sales of the cheaper iPhones. The iPhone SE 2022 is not such a stunner as the predecessors, the iPhone 13 mini is not wanted by anyone anyway, and the iPhone 14 (Plus) is considerably less than the 14 Pro in terms of sales.

So theory 1 is that, according to Apple, cheap iPhones are not selling at the moment. The numbers don’t lie, but we think that is partly based on the disappointing innovations of those models (or myths about a disappointing battery in the 13 mini).

Theory 2 might make even more sense to Apple. Because with the larger screen, the iPhone SE 4 would also be more expensive to make. And in a segment where price is so important, every penny of margin counts.

Theory 3 has to do with the problematic production of the iPhones at the moment. Certainly the Pro models are hard to get hold of and their production remains difficult. Although the necessary changes are imminent in the Foxconn factories, another new model to produce might not be a good decision.

Canceled or postponed?

Now the question is whether the iPhone SE 4 has been canceled completely, or only postponed to 2024. Both options are possible, but with iPhoned we think a combination of both is most likely. The plans for the SE 4 are currently on hold. Maybe they’ll be taken out in 2024, or maybe not until 2025. It’ll all have to do with where iPhone sales go. So much for the more positive show on the SE 4.

If you look at it negatively, this would also be Apple’s first step to completely do away with the cheaper iPhones. First the iPhone SE, and then the basic models that don’t sell anyway. That leaves the expensive Pros. But then they are no longer special enough. And this is where the rumors of an even more expensive iPhone 15 Ultra come into play. Are we right with this? We hope not. Is it a possible strategy? We almost fear so.
