iPhone 15 Pro: the A17 chip will push current users to upgrade

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be entitled to a new chip, namely the A17 from Apple. It will succeed the A16 of the iPhone 14 Pro and the suppliers believe that it will really make current users want to switch to the new phones, according to Digitimes.

The A17 chip of the iPhone 15 Pro will have a 3 nm engraving, where the A16 has a 5 nm one. The switch to 3 nm will improve general performance, while reducing energy consumption, which will be positive for autonomy.

The first-generation 3nm process (also known as N3) is said to improve power efficiency by 35% over TSMC’s 5nm-based N4 manufacturing process used with the A16.

Apple suppliers believe that the performance gain and better battery life will push current iPhone owners to upgrade to the 2023 generation. At least on the Pro models, since the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus should normally have the chip A16 from last year.

Recently, it was revealed that Apple had taken 100% of the initial orders for the first-generation 3nm engraving technology, despite the higher costs involved in manufacturing.
