iPhone 14 Pro gets better RAM (and becomes more powerful than ever)

The iPhone 14 Pro will almost certainly arrive in September and it will of course be a lot better than the previous iPhone. According to new rumors, the iPhone 14 Pro will get better working memory, but how much faster (and more powerful) will Apple’s new smartphone actually be? iPhoned gives you the answer!

Read on after the ad.

iPhone 14 Pro gets better RAM

According to a rumor, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get faster RAM. Both iPhones get 6GB of LPDDR5 ram, which is a faster and more efficient type of RAM than the previous generation has. The iPhone 13 has LPDDR4X ram and the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will probably also have this type of RAM.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini have 4GB of RAM. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have 6GB of RAM. It is expected that all iPhone 14 models will soon have 6GB of RAM. The iPhone 14 Pro models will get a faster version of that RAM. This will then look like this:

  • iPhone 14 6GB (LPDDR4X)
  • iPhone 14 Max 6GB (LPDDR4X)
  • iPhone 14 Pro 6GB (LPDDR5)
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max 6GB (LPDDR5)

iPhone 14 Pro gets faster than ever

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will receive the A15 chip, which you will also find in the iPhone 13. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will receive an A16 chip. This will make the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) a bit faster than the standard models of the iPhone 14.

A16 chip provides a boost

It is difficult to judge how much faster the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) will become because of this, but we can give an indication. The A16 chip uses the new manufacturing process, which provides a performance boost of about 11 percent. The chip is therefore also about 22 percent more energy-efficient.

Smoother working memory: 15 percent speed gain

The new working memory provides a significant speed gain. This is the same memory that is also used in the M1 Pro and the M1 Max chips. With this new ram, the bandwidth is better and the working memory can work even faster. This can probably lead to a performance gain of about 15 percent.

Neural Engine and image chip are also getting faster

The iPhone 14 Pro models will receive a 48-megapixel camera and 8K video, according to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Of course, this upgrade requires a lot more from the image chip and the Neural Engine (the part that takes on and accelerates machine learning tasks). That is why Apple will also make the necessary upgrades to the image chip and the Neural Engine. How much faster is impossible to estimate, because it will be the first iPhone with a 48MP camera.
