iOS 17 isn’t getting any major new features
Apple is expected to release iOS 17 this year. Last year, iOS 16 was a major update that brought all kinds of new functions to your iPhone. The most notable features were the new lock screen, an improved Focus Mode, new messaging features and more.
iOS 17 will probably get fewer big features than Apple originally planned. The same applies to iPadOS 17 and macOS 14, no major updates are expected there either. But why are the big, new features not expected to materialize?
Apple focuses on Apple Reality
Apple is currently busy with the final preparations for Apple Reality. The company’s first VR glasses were already delayed by the software, according to the usually reliable Apple analyst Kuo. As a result, the focus of the developers is now mainly on building xrOS, the operating system of the Apple Reality.

With developers now focusing on xrOS, less time is being spent developing iOS 17, iPadOS17, and macOS 14. iOS 17 and the other new operating systems are unlikely to receive major new features as a result. This is in contrast to iOS 14 and iOS 16, which both consisted of a major update.
Few new features for iOS17: good sign for xrOS
That Apple has now chosen to focus on developing xrOS is good news for the operating system. After all, it is the first time that Apple has developed software for VR glasses, which means that a lot of time has to be spent refining the operating system. That now seems to be actually happening.
Apple has been developing the Apple Reality for years, first also called Apple Glass. The glasses are expected this spring, so Apple is now in a hurry to perfect the software. Of course, the company wants to market a product that works properly at launch.
Apple Reality will be released this spring
Apple’s first VR glasses will therefore appear this spring. If this is still too early, we expect the presentation of the headset at Apple’s WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) in June. Here’s what we know so far about Apple’s first headset.
