record your (world) travels with Polarsteps

You can capture trips by taking photos of all the destinations you visit and manually turning them into a photo book later. Apps like Polarsteps make it even easier to keep track of your entire journey. Add photos, texts and points of interest and Polarsteps will do the rest.

Enjoying a trip through Europe? What a shame it would be to only have a handful of photos from the trip after the holiday. But also: wouldn’t it be great if others in your area could stay informed of the progress of your journey during your holiday? That is exactly what Polarsteps makes possible. In the app you make a travel report that you can possibly share with the home front. If you are going to get started with Polarsteps, add a Polarsteps trip before the start of your trip via the Travel tab.

If the trip is planned, so with a start and end date, the fun can begin. As soon as you hit the road, Polarsteps starts tracking your journey. Just make sure the app constant access your location to get the most accurate picture of the journey you are taking.

Has the journey begun? Then Polarsteps asks you to fill in a so-called ‘step’ each time you open the app. For example, you can take a picture that the journey has started, with a (short) text about the event and possibly the place of interest you have visited. If you then open the app again when you are in France, for example, you will also be asked to add a scooter there. Whether you add a scooter is of course up to you, but for the home front – and yourself when you look back later – each scooter can be indicative of the pleasure you experienced on holiday.

After completing the journeys, you will see the statistics of your journeys on the home screen – such as the number of kilometers you have traveled and the countries you have visited. At the top you will also find your personal world map with the destinations you have visited. If you regularly travel and use Polarsteps, you can see exactly which routes you have traveled and where you come most often. That way you can also get inspiration for future trips, by planning trips to countries you’ve never visited.

App of the week: record your (world) trips with Polarsteps

Before you start thinking about your previous trip, enjoy all the memories you have of your previous trip. You can do this by viewing all the steps of your journey, but you can also have a Polarsteps photo book drawn up. You can do this in just one click. Photos, texts and locations from your trip are used for this. Polarsteps’ photo book is the only revenue model of the app developed in the Netherlands – the app is free, and the developers don’t plan to fill the app with ads.

Download Polar Steps

Polarsteps can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. There is no cost to the app – nor is it possible to subscribe to the app to unlock features that others don’t. Finally, it is useful to know that the app hardly uses mobile data, because it only uploads photos via mobile data in low quality. This way you will not be faced with surprises abroad.
