iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 with many new features for iPhones and iPads are here

Apple released the major updates to iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. This means that the new OS versions are available to all owners of a compatible iPhone or iPad. However, all of the announced functions are not yet available.

As promised in the course of the presentation of the iPhone 13 series, Apple made the OS updates to iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 available for everyone to install after several betas. As of today, watchOS 8 is also available for download for all compatible Apple watches.

iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are ready – but not yet complete

With the two new OS updates, iPhones and iPads have many new functions. Among other things, social features for Facetime and news are moving in. In addition, the OS versions bring enhanced notifications and a focus function. The latter should help you in different situations to only show notifications from certain apps and people you have specified. During work, for example, this could only be messages from colleagues or, in free time, only from your private contacts.

However, all of the iOS 15 functions announced for WWDC 2021 will not make it to iPhones and iPads with the release. Among other things, shareplay is still missing. With the feature, you can share media and screen content with your Facetime contacts, for example to watch films or listen to music together. In addition, the “Find my” Airpods function will not appear with iOS 15, but only later. In a further article we have compiled further features for you that will probably only appear with iOS 15.1 or 15.2.

With the update, the Apple Watch becomes a universal keychain so that the wallet on the Series 6 and 7 watches can no longer only be used for contactless payments via Apple Pay. Initially, smartwatch wearers should be able to remotely unlock cars supported on the inside and start them from the driver’s seat. You can find out what else the update will bring in our watchOS 8 overview article.

It is always advisable to create a backup before installing the updates. The new versions seem quite stable so far, but the rule is: Better safe than sorry. As a rule, the devices automatically display fresh updates. But the impatient can also take it under settings > Generally > Software update look up or initiate the update manually.
