iOS 15.3 RC now available: release seems imminent

Just a few weeks ago, iOS 15.2 came out, and soon we will be able to install iOS 15.3 on iPhone. The RC (release candidate build) of this has already been published.

Read on after the ad.

iOS 15.3 RC

The RC is the last test version of a major release. On Thursday, Apple released iOS 15.3 RC, which developers and public testers can install.

The release candidate build is remarkably fast, as only two betas of iOS 15.3 had been released. Also, it’s only been a little over a month since Apple released iOS 15.2 for installation.

But while iOS 15.2 was packed with new features, iOS 15.3 doesn’t include any new features. There was no new feature included in the betas. The mid-term update focuses on bug fixes and bug fixes.

The main improvement is that iOS 15.3 appears to fix a Safari bug that could cause your recent browsing history to be visible to malicious websites. The bug allows websites to see which other websites the user visits while Safari is open.

iOS 15.3 release

This is probably also the reason why Apple is speeding up the release of iOS 15.3. After an RC it usually takes less than a week before the official release follows. With iOS 14.2 and iOS 15 it was six days, with iOS 15.2 it was five.

Usually, Apple releases an interim update on a Monday or Tuesday. That means there’s a good chance you’ll be able to install the update on January 24 or 25. This is possible from 19:00 Dutch time.
